The annual service minimum (instrumentation dependent) is 22, although the orchestra regularly exceeds that number. Volunteer with the Glens Falls Symphony!

The Glens Falls Symphony has numerous volunteer opportunities throughout the entire year—not only during the performing season—and we’d love to have your help!

Ways to get involved:

Concerts and Events Volunteer Opportunities:

-Ushers

-Greeters, Box Office Support & Guest Services

-Community events, festivals, fundraisers, and open houses. For these types of events, volunteer assistance is often needed for the following duties: Assist in event set up and break down (includes moving tables, arranging décor, stocking refreshment tables, organizing materials and signage, etc.), managing the information table/display, speaking with patrons and promoting.

Education Programs Volunteer Opportunities:

The Glens Falls Symphony Children’s Concert Series: Ushers, Greeters, and Safety

The Glens Falls Symphony Children’s Concerts are integral to our mission to inspire and educate young minds through music. These events are held at regional High School Auditoriums and welcome elementary and intermediate age school children from all over the Adirondack Park, as well as Saratoga and Washington Counties. More than 1500 students and educators are involved each fall. Volunteering for the GFS annual Children’s concerts is a great opportunity for volunteers to experience the GFS outside the hall, and in their own backyards!

Instrument Petting Zoos:

The Glens Falls Symphony presents Instrument Petting Zoos throughout the season. The Instrument Petting Zoos give children a hands-on opportunity to learn about musical instruments. Basic knowledge of music/musical instruments is not required. All volunteers are trained on how each instrument works, along with how to hold and make simple sounds, which the volunteer will then teach to participants of the Instrument Petting Zoo. Volunteering for the Instrument Petting Zoo is a great opportunity for students, educators, lifelong learners, and more.

·         Modeling sound production on instruments

·         Supervising children and guiding their active engagement

·         Adhering to health and safety standards

·         Assisting with set-up/clean-up

Office Administration:

The Glens Falls Symphony, at times, requires assistance in the completion of various ongoing administrative/clerical tasks and those associated with various Marketing and Philanthropic Development mailings and communications. Experienced office volunteers are an important support system for the organization.

·         Preparation of mailings such as stuffing and sorting envelopes

·         Telephone support to include subscription renewal and donor calls

·         Deliver flyers, posters, brochures, etc., to locations around the region to promote GFS Concerts

·         Assistance with archiving materials

Housing Hosts:

The Glens Falls Symphony provides lodging for musicians who travel more than 50 miles to perform in our concerts. You can support the GFS by offering a homestay to these musicians.

For musicians, staying in a host’s home offers a comfortable place to stay and a chance to meet new friends. For hosts, it’s an opportunity to meet talented musicians and build connections.

To learn more about becoming a housing host, email: patronservices@gfso.org

Minimum Requirements:

A private room with access to a full bathroom

Space for musicians to practice during the day

Parking for a car (street parking is okay)

Musicians handle their meals, but many appreciate sharing meals with hosts. While providing meals isn’t required, it’s a kind gesture enjoyed by both parties. We encourage hosts to offer meals if it works for them. Meal details should be agreed upon beforehand between the musician and the host to ensure a smooth stay.

The Winston-Salem Symphony values the experiences you have, which play a part in developing the skills and knowledge necessary to be a successful volunteer. Volunteers of all abilities, gender identities, races, and experiences are welcome to apply. Please carefully review the information below.
