He also received a Graduate Degree in Banking from the Stonier School of Banking at the University of Delaware in 1991.

He started his banking career in 1985 with the then-named State Bank of Albany, and after 2+ years, he commenced work at The Adirondack Trust Company.  After 22 years of community banking work at the ATC, he then accepted a position at Saratoga National Bank as their Manager of Corporate Lending.  He worked at SNB for 10+ years, also serving as their Senior Vice President & Corporate Secretary, and Community Development Officer.  He retired from Banking in July of 2019.

On a personal note, he is a passionate yet somewhat untalented golfer who plays at both the Saratoga Golf & Polo Club and the Saratoga Spa Park courses.  Richard furthers his golfing passion by working part-time as the Saturday afternoon starter at the Spa State Park.  Interests shared with his wife, Mary, include travel, entertaining, and the love of their property and gardens, which they affectionately call “9 Acres”.
