Feature Friday 5.16.25 Dedicated Artist: Tom Myott
Tom Myott, an acclaimed artist based in Glens Falls, NY, is renowned for his vibrant thoroughbred racing scenes, stunning landscapes, and personal portraits. Known for his lively color palette and spirited brushstrokes, Myott masterfully conveys movement and the splendor of nature. His works are inspired by the vigor and grace of thoroughbred horses, as well as the picturesque surroundings of Saratoga Springs.
A native of South Glens Falls, Myott had been an art teacher in the South Glens Falls school district since 1992, serving for over 30 years. During that time, Tom dedicated himself to developing young artists and instilling an appreciation for art that has made a significant mark on our region. Tom earned a bachelor’s degree in art at the State University of New York at Buffalo and a master’s degree in education from the State University of New York College at Plattsburgh.
Even in retirement, Myott remains engaged with community outreach, investing his efforts in arts education and local initiatives. His twin legacies of artistic achievement and community involvement highlight his meaningful impact on both the art scene and the community at large.
Tom's art studio is nestled in The Shirt Factory in Glens Falls, NY, a space alive with vivid artwork, diverse inspirations, and encased in historic architecture. The large, colorful paintings create an exhilarating visual experience. Tom spends his days at the studio painting and hosting different classes and events.
Tom is often asked if he only paints horses, to which the answer is no. He is skilled in a wide range of styles and subjects, including this year’s GFS Springtime Gala invitation art, Tom named, “English Roses” as these flowers were chosen for this year’s event by our honoree, Kathy Grasmeder. Tom has also generously donated an exclusive piece called “Symphony,” which you will be able to bid on at this year’s silent auction, with all proceeds going to the Glens Falls Symphony.
Throughout his career, Tom has continually explored new ideas, driven by a simple yet profound way of experiencing the world. This curiosity inspires him to capture the emotion and excitement of his surroundings in unique and creative ways. Tom's ongoing experimentation keeps his art fresh and relevant, and The Glens Falls Symphony could not be more excited to have him and his wife, Patricia, as our special guests as we celebrate at the Lake George Club on Sunday, June 1.
The GFS had a chance to ask Tom a few questions regarding this year’s event and his history with this great orchestra. Enjoy!
GFS: Tom, could you please share a little about your connection to the GFS?
TM: I am a lifetime member of the First Presbyterian Church of Glens Falls. I have known Charles Peltz, a member of the church as well, for a long time. I also have a longtime friendship with the music director of the church, Bryan Kirk. Bryan asked if I would contribute a work of art to the gala this year. Considering my connection with these two outstanding and reputable gentlemen, there was no hesitation in responding yes to the opportunity to use my gift of painting for the Symphony Gala.
GFS: What are you looking forward to most about this year’s event?
TM: I look forward to meeting more people who are involved with the symphony. I enjoy supporting the arts, and this is the perfect opportunity to thank musicians for their contribution to music!
GFS: Please describe a little about “Symphony,” the work you will be donating to this year’s silent auction.
TM: I painted a moderately abstract montage of symphonic instruments, conductor Charles Peltz, and an overlay of a portion of Beethoven's First Movement. I hope this colorful composition represents the overall feeling that a viewer experiences when attending a symphony concert.
GFS: What is coming up next for Tom this summer as the horse racing season begins?
TM: I am in the throes of creating a series of thoroughbred-related paintings and drawings that will be displayed for sale at Silverwood Home and Gallery in Saratoga through the racing season. Silverwood is owned and operated by Charleen Wood and her daughter, Chelsea Silver. I will also paint on location in front of their store on Broadway periodically throughout the summer. I thoroughly enjoy connecting with the local community and visitors in town for the meet.
GFS: Where can we find more information about you and your works?
TM: To view my bio, my work, and commission a painting, visit my website www.tmyottart.com, email tmyottart@gmail.com, or call 518.812.1018.
